Your Cooking Utensils and Gadgets

You see a commercial for the latest in cooking gadgets. Perhaps it’s a garlic peeler. Or maybe it is a special device to core an apple and since you eat a lot of apples or cook with garlic all the time, you may be tempted.

But when it comes down to it, if you know what you are doing in the kitchen and use all of the little tips at your disposal, those gadgets may save you only seconds, if that. Is the extra expense worth it?

If you stock your kitchen with a few basic, high quality kitchen utensils, it will turn you into a better chef. If you buy all the latest gadgets, it will only take up space in your kitchen. So that you don’t fall into that trap, avoid feeling the temptation of those commercials and cooking demos.

Good Set of Knives A great Cooking Investment

A good set of knives is easily the most important thing that you could have in the kitchen. That and a large cutting board. A lot of people buy the least expensive knives they can find. If you want to learn how to cook and be as efficient as possible in the kitchen, skimping on the knife set is not a good idea.

Visit your local home store and check out their knife display. Most of the knives are locked up but you can probably find a salesperson and explain to them your needs. They’ll let you hold them so you can judge how they feel.

Don’t buy a knife just because it is expensive, however. The grip and balance may not be what you need. Test out knives that are in all different price ranges. There is nothing wrong with buying something inexpensive, as long as it feels good.

The best cooking utensils are the ones you will use with enjoyment when in your kitchen.
