Starting Your Own Cook Book

The first thing I ever saved as a young girl was all my favorite mother’s recipes. I made a cook book for when I grew up and would one day get married. I still have that cook book. It is an old exercise school book covered in pretty girly paper and it still holds my favorite recipes.

Keeping your own cook book has many benefits. The first one is it is easy to pick up a book of old favorites and choose a recipe pretty quickly. Picking up another recipe book can be very time consuming as you flick through the recipes.

Everyone has their own tastes and food preferences, and maybe you or someone in your family has allergies that you need to be aware of when you are cooking. Whatever the case is, by keeping your own cook book you are basically going to have the ability to keep track of everything and make sure that you always know just what is going on.

Getting Started on Your Cook Book

Starting up your own cook book is really simple. First you just want to go and purchase any type of pad or exercise book as I did and make sure that it is one that the pages are big enough for you to write on and maybe even paste a few recipes into.

Now that you have your cook book, you can start adding to it. Maybe there are cooking recipes that have been in your family for years and which you want to include in the book, or maybe there are even some that you made up all on your own. Whatever, it doesn’t matter, as long as they are good recipes that you know you are going to use time and time again.

Having your own cook book is something that many cooking schools actually recommend that their students do. Especially if you are just getting started in the cooking field, of course you are going to want to have the most success and this means that you should have a means of keeping track of everything important.

With your own book at your side, kept in the kitchen or elsewhere where it is going to be easily accessible for when you are cooking, at least you know that you are going to have it there as your sidekick to help you out.

Besides keeping your recipes, don’t forget to write down any hints and tips you come across or perhaps cup measurements you use all the time. There also may be some cooking terms or techniques you want to remember from other world cuisines, such as Italian cooking or French cooking. There could also be a place in your cook book for information on formal settings – how many spoons or wine glasses are needed for a special occasion. Your cook book can become a virtual treasure trove of cooking tips and ideas.

You can also give someone a book full of your own tips and recipes as a wonderful recipe cookbook gift.
