Donut Making Is Quick and Easy

You don’t have to visit Dunkin Donuts or Crispy Crème to get your donut fix! You can get into your own donut making. Contrary to popular belief, donuts are actually quick and easy to make in the comfort of your own home. Basically, donuts are all made the same way and consist of mainly the same ingredients.

Ingredients For Donut Making

Grab some flour, sugar, milk, eggs and a touch of vanilla for added flavoring. Once you have all the contents ready, mix it all up for about two minutes. You’ll need a good amount of oil for the actual cooking process, but most of these ingredients can be found routinely in just about every kitchen.

Once your dough is ready, you just need to play around and make some donut shapes. Perhaps the easiest way is with a donut cutter, but you don’t really need one to create a delicious donut treat. Grab a handful of dough, create a long strip thick enough to be a donut, make a circle and connect the ends together. Coating your hands with flour makes the process a little less sticky and manageable.

Another less messy method in donut making is to roll out the entire dough mix until you get the donut thickness. You can use two sizes of cookie cutters; one to create the actual donut size and one to cut out the donut hole. If you don’t have cookie cutters, use classes or cups. A normal sized drinking glass provides a shapely donut, and a shot glass can be used to cut out the center. As an added bonus with this method you get a donut hole to deep fry as well!

Slowly place your donut creations one at a time in a preheated pot of oil. Cook in oil for approximately 7 minutes or until the outside of the donut is golden brown. Using kitchen tongs, remove the donut and place on a paper towel or paper bag to cool and soak up the excess oil.

A Variety of Donut Toppings

That’s just a plain ‘ole donut you say? Well, now comes the fun part. You can make a variety of donut toppings to add some zest and appeal to your new donut recipe. Melt a block of chocolate in another pan and you can easily spread that over your donuts. If you like more fruity toppings, try a strawberry or other flavored syrup to top your donuts. If you’d like to make your own syrup, mix some butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract in a small pan, heat until the texture becomes smooth and creamy and then spoon and spread on the donuts. You can add other toppings like chopped nuts and decorator candy sprinkles too.

Experiment with different toppings, or simply sprinkle some powdered sugar on your treats. Making donuts at home is an enjoyable activity where you can even involve the kiddoes. Try using different shapes and sizes, and for the more adventurous, you can even fill the donuts with a fruit filling. Create a thinner and wider donut shape, add in some pie filling from a can onto one half of the dough, pull the other half over to create a pocket and seal with your fingers.
After making a few you’ll see how easy and fun donut making can be. The possibilities of shapes, sizes and flavored toppings are limited only by your imagination! This is something the whole family will enjoy making and of course eating!
