Cooking Tips On How To Perk Up Your Meals With Olive Oil

If you are looking for ways to make your home-cooked dishes healthier and more delicious, you are in luck because in this article, we will be sharing a number of cooking tips on how to perk up your meals just by using olive oil.

Health Benefits of Olive Oil

By now, most people already know that olive oil is considered to be one of the best oils you can use in food preparation. However, there are still a few myths that surround this healthy oil that make people somewhat hesitant to use it in their daily cooking. For instance, it is said that olive oil burns a lot faster than other oils and that when it does, most of the health benefits disappear. This statement, however, is just half true. While it does burn more easily, food experts say that olive oil retains practically all of its nutritional content, although in the process, it does lose a lot of the distinctive flavor that it is well known for.

One of the best cooking tips to solve this problem is to use a regular olive oil for the actual cooking process and just allow the flavor to dissipate as the food cooks. Just before serving, you can always add a few drops of a more expensive olive oil variety to bring back the aroma and flavor of the oil into the meal.

Cooking with Olive Oil Lessens Nutritional Value — True or False?

This is absolutely false, without question. There is no way that cooking with olive oil can lessen the nutritional value of any kind of food, although this is what some people seem to believe. According to some cooking tips, cooking with oil should be avoided at all costs if you want to preserve the natural health benefits of certain foods, like vegetables and meat. But when you use olive oil to cook food, the opposite is actually true. Instead of diminishing the nutritional value of the food, you are actually getting much more nutrients from the oil itself. What is true though is that you have to avoid overcooking because this may cause the food to lose some of its health benefits.

The Difference Between Virgin and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Many cooking tips would say that extra virgin olive oil is the better choice but this has never actually been proven. It may have slightly more antioxidants than virgin olive oil but the difference is hardly noticeable.
