Healthy cooking tips help impart a healthy lifestyle and are essential for anyone who wants to lose weight, stay healthy and have healthy heart, circulation, skin and immune system. Healthy cooking is part choosing the right ingredients, and part putting the food together properly to ensure that you get the most nutrition out of every meal you eat. There are some quick and easy healthy cooking tips which you can follow in order to achieve optimal results with all your meals.
The first healthy cooking tip that you will find is to use “healthy” or good for you oils in your cooking. For instance, instead of using just any oil to cook those veggies in, choose an extra virgin olive oil, which contains good fats that your body can convert into energy and is less likely to store as fat. Oils such as olive oil also contain essential fatty acids, such as Omega 3’s which are good for everything from the heart to the skin to joints. As with all oils, you shouldn’t use too much, but you will find that once you get in the habit of cooking with this type of oil, you will never cook with vegetable oil again.
The second healthy cooking tip is to learn what to substitute. This is especially important if you are trying to lose weight, as some meats and meals that we love can be very fattening, but can be converted in a few simple steps. For instance, does your favorite recipe call for ground beef? Consider choosing its leaner counterpart, ground turkey for a low fat alternative that will drop the calories in your favorite dinner by a ton. Not to mention the fat content.
Your third essential healthy cooking tip is to reduce your sodium. This is not only important when you’re working to maintain healthy blood pressure, but did you know that sodium can actually cause you to retain water, which can make you weigh more. Since the first ten pounds or so that we lose is usually what they call water weight, this is a great way to shed those pounds while making sure to stay healthy.
Other essential healthy cooking tips include using whole grains whenever possible. That’s right: you don’t’ want anything that contains white flower in your cabinets, as the nutritional value is next to nothing and these types of food tend to turn to sugar and are harder for the body to get energy from. Make sure to choose whole grain rice, bread and grains to use in your cooking whenever possible and learn ways to enjoy them in your meals. They increase your fiber intake too, which is another essential when you are working to cook healthy meals.
