Do you need to try experimenting with herbs, spices and seasonings? This thought can be a little intimidating if you are unsure of what tastes best with what meals. Do you find yourself adding more and more salt to the food? Do you automatically throw on extra pepper for added zip? If the answer was yes to these questions, then you are in need of a little experimenting with some spices and herbs.

One great way to get started is to think about roasting a chicken. Consider the side dishes you want to serve and go from there. If roasted red potatoes are what you are in the mood for, try adding some roasted chicken seasoning, a few teaspoons of olive oil and rosemary. These all go lovely with the potatoes. There is no limit if you really want to spice things up more with your chicken. You can easily try many different herbs, spices and seasonings to give your chicken a unique and powerful flavor.

It usually surprises most people that trying and using a variety of herbs, spices and seasonings is not at all difficult. It is a fairly easy thing to try. Most of the common herbs and spices you will end up trying really do compliment most dishes. If you are a novice, start out with the common kitchen herbs such as garlic and sea salt. Sea salt is lower in sodium that regular table salt. There are also all purpose seasonings you will want on hand along with cinnamon, oregano, lemon pepper, cilantro and basil. Cilantro and basil can be bought fresh and are very versatile in most dishes.

Most people automatically associate fresh basil with traditional Italian foods and pastas; however you can toss it into so much more. Cilantro is a tad stronger and can really add zest to salads and sauces. Fresh parsley is another fresh herb option that you can use on so much. Cream sauces and certain soups are really better with chopped fresh parsley thrown in.

The more you try to use herbs, spices and seasonings in new ways, the more you will be able to gauge what works with what. Adding a side of flavorful rice to compliment the spicy meat dish you are preparing is always a great choice. If you go the extra mile to grill vegetables, you have a well rounded flavorful meal.

Starting from scratch to get out of a food rut is the best way to jump into something new. The new flavors of herbs, spices and seasonings can make your old favorites new again. You just never know what new recipes you may stumble on to while trying out different flavors.

Once you start experimenting, be sure to keep track of the new twist you come up with for your dishes. Writing down exactly what herbs you tossed in to create the best tasting foods you have ever had is the best way to ensure you will be able to re-create them. Trying your hand at herbs, spices and seasonings can really spark your creativity and make your food taste better than ever.
