Tofu is actually very easy to prepare and there are quick and easy recipes for tofu to provide your family with a healthy meal choice. Of the healthier foods we should include in our diets, tofu tops the list. Low in cholesterol and calories, but high in the good protein and vitamins our bodies need, tofu makes a great supplement we should explore. Tofu, also known as bean curd, is often used in soups as well.
Tofu can be added to salads, combined with meats or fish, fried and even prepared for a sandwich filling just to name a few. You can even use tofu to create a dip for chips or snack crackers. An easy dip idea is to sauté some fresh chopped garlic and onion, add to a food processor with the tofu and voila – your condiment is ready. Add salt and pepper to taste, and experiment with other seasonings you may enjoy as well. Some add a Cajun seasoning for an added kick.
Today, tofu is extremely popular in health food fanatics’ diets and vegetarian cooking. You don’t have to be a health food buff to enjoy tofu’s many benefits. Supermarkets are reporting record highs for tofu sales on a routine basis. Because of the protein in tofu, many have used it as a meat substitute in meals as well. Quick and easy recipes for tofu are seemingly endless, making this a staple ingredient in many kitchens.
Seasonings and other additions to your tofu meal tend to stand out and give a flavor boost. By itself, tofu isn’t the tastiest, but they ways to prepare it are countless making it one of the most versatile and healthy ingredients in any recipe. It’s easy to put a tofu square on top of a dish, but that certainly doesn’t do much for meal presentation or taste. The key is to make yourself comfortable with the ways in which to use tofu and experiment in finding the delicious recipes your whole family will enjoy.
Tofu stuffed mushrooms is a favorite recipe for many. Prepare your stuffing mixture using tofu, chopped green onions, one or two crushed cloves of garlic, a touch of soy sauce, dash of oyster sauce and salt and pepper to taste. Stuff the mushrooms, large of course, with this tasty preparation and bake in a preheated oven for no more than 15 minutes. This is certainly a quick and easy recipe for tofu and so easy to prepare! Dinner will be ready in a snap.
For the spice lovers chili tofu patties are a nice treat. Prepare a marinade for your tofu of chili powder, soy sauce and some garlic. Place your tofu cube in the mixture for approximately 15 minutes and then transfer the entire mixture to a heated pan with enough olive oil to just cover the bottom. Pan-fry the tofu until the cubes are crispy on all sides. Place the tasty tofu patties on a paper sack or paper towel to cool and remove any excess fat. To retain the crispy appeal, paper sacks are recommended as paper towels tend to make fried foods a little soggy. This recipe can be served as a main dish or even an appetizer.
To make a tofu burger, simply mix your tofu cube with a little flour to help form the patties. Add the same seasonings you would for any other burger. You can pan fry or place on a grill for a delicious alternative to using fat-filled ground beef.
Limitless possibilities are available in tofu preparation. You can blend in some tofu with your favorite potato recipe, crab meat dishes, burgers, pasta and even rice dishes. Once you get the hang of cooking with tofu, you’ll never run out of options as there are so many quick and easy recipes for tofu to prepare.
