Cooking Wild Turkey Is Not Too Difficult

We all know certain holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas go hand and hand with a big turkey feast. If you want to do something different and add a unique touch to the meal, try cooking wild turkey. It isn’t nearly as difficult as it sounds. The method of cooking up a domestic turkey is pretty much the same as a wild turkey.
Both varieties of poultry are actually cousins and they both can make for an incredibly tasty feast. There are slight differences however. The actual shape and flavor sets them apart. When cooking wild turkey, you will notice a difference in the plumpness. Wild turkeys are not as full breasted as a domestic turkey appears to be.
The smaller, more compact breast of a wild turkey will give you firmer meat. The meat will also be juicier. Some also feel the flavor of a wild turkey is much more appetizing than that of a domestic bird. The meat is said to be more tender than domestic. The actual cooking techniques of hens and male wild turkeys do not differ greatly.
Knowing how to carefully clean and prepare a wild turkey is important. You also need to know before you begin cooking wild turkey how your guest will respond and how they expect their turkey to be prepared. Since it could very well be a first time experience for you the cook or for your guest, you want to make sure the flavor doesn’t end up tasting very gamey.
Always be prepared for your kitchen to look disastrous during the process. When dealing with a meal like turkey, the mess is unavoidable. If you are smoking, roasting or frying your turkey, you may entertain the idea of cooking it up outside, which will only help your kitchen stay clean longer.
Try to find a recipe for cooking wild turkey which is only for wild bird. A recipe for domestic poultry might not give you the results you want. While they are alike, there might be slight variations in the actual cooking process.
If you have a smoker and love the flavor smoking a turkey gives you, be sure to use on which can be set for one hundred sixty five degrees Fahrenheit internally. However, it makes sense before you begin any of these processes to make sure skinning a wild turkey and plucking wild turkey is something you know how to do. It may take a little research, but remember when cooking wild turkey to follow the necessary steps and recipe and enjoy the feast you worked hard to prepare.
