Nonstick cookware is an option many people enjoy. It allows them to cook the foods they want without the problems of food sticking to the bottom. It makes clean up a breeze which most of us like. Who wants to spend time cleaning up after a nice dinner they have made for the household to enjoy? Those that are watching the amount of fat in their food especially like nonstick cookware because they don’t have to use oils or fats on them to prevent foods from sticking.

One problem with nonstick cookware though is that is contains a carcinogen called PFOA. This has been linked to low birth weight in infants, high cholesterol, and it can lower the effectiveness of the immune system. Not everyone have any effects from nonstick cookware though.

It really depends on your body chemistry and how often you eat foods make in this type of cookware. However, the Environmental Protection Agency is concerned enough about it that they have required manufacturers to stop using it by 2015. Many of the top manufacturers quit using it a long time ago so that people wouldn’t be discouraged from buying their products.

Most people find that they have been cooking with nonstick cookware for decades and haven’t experienced any problems at all. You can ensure your nonstick cookware lasts a very long time by taking good care of it.

You don’t want to leave nonstick cookware on the heat when you don’t have anything in it. Remove the pan or the pot from the stove when you are done cooking the foods in it. Keep a good eye on how high the flames are with nonstick cookware. You want to keep it at medium or lower because the high flames can damage it.

Only use plastic utensils when you have nonstick cookware. Metal ones will scratch the coating on the bottom of your cookware. This will allow foods to stick when they shouldn’t. You also want to wash them in the sink instead of the dishwasher. Avoid using scratch pads or harsh cleaners. You also don’t want to stack them on top of each other to store. Either hand the nonstick cookware up or place paper towels between each one in the cabinet.
